The Farmhouse

Casa Coltifredi is a farmhouse in the middle of wineyards, olive groves, and woods. The house is very close to Mercatale Val di Pesa, a village right in the heart of the Chianti Classico area, 300 m. above sea level.

Historically Casa Coltifredi was a typical Tuscan Villa, with a solid structure, and it was built on the Bishop's land.

The original name of Cortifreda or Gottifreda, comes from the Count Gottifredo of the Alberti family. He was Bishop of Florence since 1114. The fifteenth century beautiful fresco, facing the façade and representing the Virgin Mary, the Holy Child and two Saints proves how important this place was for the Alberti family.
